Wind Generator Motors

I am working myself to create a wind generator for my backyard power station.
It is just going to be small so that the neighbours won't complain but I am still hoping to get about 600/700 Kwh per year.
The thing I am not so sure about is the Generator-Motor people talk about using these gym stepping machine motors but these seem to be in very short supply [used] and high demand. Lots of people favour Modern Alternators from scrap cars which seems like a good idea but I don,t like the RPM they seem to need to start Producing decent voltages.
I fancy using a car starter motor, I know its going to be heavy but it must be very strong and designed to work at a low RPM plus of course it comes with decent mounting points and very heavy duty windings.

helping the Planet ??

Some people just want to be seen to be "Helping the Planet" and that's the way they want to go and they don't really care what it costs.
Other people are sick of the constantly rising cost of energy and they want to reduce it and their dependence on the energy companies.
And some people just like the challenge of doing every thing themselves.

These three groups can all be satisfied by installing an alternative energy source on their roof, in the ground, or in the back garden.
What most people do not realise is that if you are careful about what you implement and particularly if you "Do It Yourself" you can not only get a good return on our Pound/Euro/Dollar you can actually make an income from it.

And if at the same time we are shown to be helping the planet and reducing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, well that’s great as long as we still get the return on our investment.

Hi

This is my first blog and my first post so don't get too excited.

I have had a lifelong interest in DoItYourself also known as DIY, frequently because if I did not DIY I could not afford to do whatever it was I wanted to do.
I suspect that a few of you are nodding your heads in agreement.
But you will probably also agree that DIY moves on from being a necessity to being a much enjoyed hobby and a source of great pleasure.

It's not just the substantial savings its the satisfaction gained from knowing exactly what you have done and why it is not working.

I also have a wide range of interests and one of my particular interests is Alternative Technology. In other words cheap, successful, methods of obtaining Heating, Lighting and Electrical Power, with the minimum involvement of Big Business.

looking back I suppose you could have guessed all of this from the Blog title.

I think I will enjoy working on this Blog and I really look forward to any contributions, advice and assistance.
